Down to South Uist
Today was Tricia's spinning day and so we headed down to South Uist. You are lucky that the blip is not another bird as we caught up with Surf Scoter, Grey Phalarope and Glaucous Gulls amongst others - the latter feasting on 30 foot of very smelly dead Sperm Whale washed up on the shore. There are some other images from today on my flickr photostream
The image I eventually chose was of this restored black croft right down at the southern end of South Uist. I love the way it blends into the scenery, being part of it, with all the materials used in its construction probably found within a very short distance. Wood was the hardest material to find and there is some archaeological evidence that in the Iron Age whale bones were used for the roof trusses - linking beautifully back to our smelly Sperm Whale!
