Big Stick Ideology!
Walk softly and carry a big stick and you will go far.
We walked for 3 hours today and that was quite far enough! After heavy rain in the night, the ground was heavy going and there were times that Fossey questioned my choice of route. Slipping, sliding and squelching along beside me, she kept looking up at me - I'd like to think she was just making sure I was doing ok, giving me encouragement to get through it. It's possible she was wondering when I'd realise what an idiot I was for taking that route!
She clearly thought I'd lost it when, as we were struggling along a very muddy field that we're familiar with, on the home straight, I suddenly turned round and went back. The mud was so bad that we were both teetering along a tiny bit of solid ground, pressed up to the hedge when I suddenly realised I'd lost my camera - I looked back and saw it dangling from a twig in the hedge so had to go back to rescue it!
At least none of us fell in, tho Fossey was nonplussed when I washed her down with the garden hose when we got back, and then did myself, as we were very dirty. All good fun tho!
