Still finding fungi
I found this nice patch of Splitgill, Schizophyllum commune, today and took this photo of the fan-shaped gills rather than the velvety cap I featured in November. Each of these caps is just 1.5 to 2 cm wide. I still find it difficult to believe it is the world's most widely distributed fungus. It had certainly not been recorded for the area of the nature reserve before I found it last autumn and I still only know it from two fallen trees. Anyway, it is still beautiful, even if it is common.
