Doha Days
O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us!
It wad frae mony a blunder free us,
An' foolish notion:
What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us,
An' ev'n devotion!
A fitting quote on Burns' Day 2014. I spent the morning at the Qatar Masters Golf - part of the European Tour ! Europe is bigger than I thought! While it no doubt got busier later I was almost alone on the fairway with some of the golfing gods that the fans swarmed around at Muirifield in July in their thousands. Pity I am not more of a golf fan. This is John Daly - a maverick American who was having a sly smoke at every tee ! As you can see from his dress he's not worried about that! The lush green golf course, in a country that has to convert all its water from the sea, seemed bizarre to say the least!
I met a mega lensed pro photographer who was bemoaning the demise of our art as photographers, due to low resolution pictures now accepted by editors on websites and journals. They did not, in his view, make any allowance, any more for the quality of real sports photography that his funny money camera was capable of producing.
