Getting to be a habit?
Another steam train blip surely I am not becoming an addict?
This is how the tale goes. No 1 son had to go back to Durham Uni last Sunday with the minimum of kit to see him thru the week due to family emergency, so today we trekked over the Pennines with rest of his stuff and had a few hours on the NE coast for a bit of a blow.
As I was loading his kit at home this morning a steam engine passed the end of our road (we are 100m from West Coast Mainline ) . A quick check of the internet revealed an excursion via the Settle and Carlisle Railway. We caught up with the train at Lancaster about 9.15 am on the M6 but only saw it in the distance. Move on a few hours and we are back at Durham dropping off No1 son and saying our goodbyes. He checked out the internet and the excursion was to be at Kirkby Stephen Station at 16.02, which is just short of half way on our route home. Would we be able to beat the train? We made it with about 5 mins to spare. The light was crap and anything above 400 ISO on my 20D is very grainy. So here's my best effort. It was a Double headed Thompson B1 61264 and LMS Black Five you all you steam engine buffs.
