What a lovely day:-

To be Introspective

One awoke this morning to a lashing gale and rain to match.

Initially there did not seem to be much prospect of going anywhere.

This photo is of a small crown shaped plate. In times past it was probably used as an ash tray. When it was produced in 1902 they probably did not have that use in mind.

It commemorates the coronation of Edward VII. Both Edward and Alexandra are depicted stylistically and it was produced (no doubt in large numbers) by the Foley China Pottery.

Much of the design appears to be transfer printed, but with the exception of the coat of arms, which is hand painted.

There is an interesting human aspect to it in that on the reverse there is painted a small letter "N" in the same orange colour paint. I believe this may be the mark of the artist who painted it.

The items were marked in such a way because the artists were paid on a piece rate.
