Maybe they do have a brain?
Pheasants are reared around here so the brave hearts can shoot them. This one must have escaped such a fate as most of the shooting is done before Christmas. They often throw themselves in front of cars with gay abandon but this one proved to have a brain.
I'd filled the bird feeders this afternoon to attract birds for the RSPB bird survey as the morning weather was awful and few were about. The pheasant must have realised something was on as it walked across the field, over our hedge and to the bottom of the bird feeder where it fed on the remains. Respect.
