Whoops

While doing the horses this morning, we had a 30 minute snow/sleet shower. Nothing much but left an inch of very slushy, slush on the firm surfaces. Was a pain when trying to muck out the concrete area they are banished to during this horrible muddy weather. Every fork load was 75% slush and very heavy.

Noticed that passing cars were "acting strangely" but couldn't work out why. A police van passed slowly as if looking for our house, a VW bus turned in our driveway (no one does this). Then the snow plough I Bliped on Friday came past, followed 20 minutes by the one from the county council and finally the blue one came by again in the other direction.

Was now finished and thought I would go to the postbox to see if the new back covers had arrived for Angie & my mobiles. Then spotted the scene. Back to house for camera and shot this from entrance.

Actually looks more dramatic than it was. There is a car in the ditch on the right, the man belongs to the red car and seemed to be trying to organise the wrecking truck. The other vehicles are simply passing, steam coming out of the exhausts. As I didn't hear or see any sirens, I am sure nobody was hurt. Seems the car simply skidded off the road and no other vehicles were involved.

Unlikely deer or other wild animals were involved. This tends to peak at dawn und dusk. The sign means beware wild animals crossing, not just deer. We have several cases close to the house every year, noticing it usually when the hunter shoots an injured animal in the middle of the night. In Germany it is thought there are about 250,000 incidents a year costing over 500 million Euros, 3000 injured persons and 10 deaths. MrB could probably give me the numbers for our parish as he often has to go out in the middle of the night to track down the injured/dead animals.

Have a safe commute tomorrow.
