Kirkwall Bay, Oh Bonny Kirkwall Bay

Just one of several ships that have been sheltering in Kirkwall Bay for the last few days. It seems busier than for many a year with the wind, tide and rain a real problem.

On the pier is the new Voith turbine which is to go into the water off Eday in the tidal run. The ship is there to 'do the deed' but is unable to get out at present. Another reason why so much testing on site has to go on until all the eventualities have been worked through.

Tidal and wave power seem so easy and simple but it's like being back in the days of the first electricity. There are so many outcomes and safety issues it takes a while to go from the drawing board to finished product.
