Woodpecker Checker

We've seen this PG&E truck around the neighborhood the last couple of days. This morning his truck was on the street behind u, and he wass up in the basket of his cherry picker tapping the electrical pole with his hammer. The following conversation ensued:

OILMAN: "Are you checking for nests?"
PG&E GUY: "It's a condominium in here!"
OILMAN: "We've seen lots of woodpeckers up there.
PG&E GUY: "Condos are good investments!"

When we returned from our circuit of the field, the truck was gone. (The woodpecker holes are visible in the picture) and a woodpecker was sitting on the top of the pole, probably checking on the condition of his/her nest after the interloper had finished with his hammer.

OilMan is now out checking the perimeter of our roof where the birds are fond of pecking holes and stuffing them with acorns. "Possible" rain is predicted.* Best not to have an attic full of water and acorns if that should actually come to pass.

*SaraLee Kunde, philanthropist, Sonoma County booster, and much beloved figure from a prominent wine making family, died a couple of days ago. She spent her last days saying good bye to friends and family who were at her bedside. Her parting words to them were, "when I get to heaven, I'll see about sending you some rain..."
