GARDEN BOUNTY
A basket of tomatoes....I think that I will be making tomato sauce, tomato soup, tomato stew, tomato sandwiches, tomato juice, tomato salad......any other suggestions?
The butternut is the first one that I have grown. When it came to cutting it I found that I could not! I tried all my knives and eventually made an incision half way round the squash with lots of wrestling, wiggling the knife in a sawing motion.
Eventually I took the squash outside, held it high above my head and smashed it down on the cement stoep (with great satisfaction I might add, getting rid of a lot of frustration at the same time. The squash split along the cut line and seeds splattered all over, but the job was done in a far shorter time than if I had persevered with the cutting-sawing effort. In no time the seeds were swept into the garden.
What's the bet we will have a bed of Hubbard squash plants next to the front stoep next summer!
