Chimney Cake

On Lady Marchmont's recommendation I decided to try a chimney cake. While I watched the cook making one he told me that originally the Transylvanian chimney cakes, or Kurtos Kalacs, were made only for very special occasions like weddings and christenings. However since 1989 they are becoming commonly seen in street stalls in Romania and Hungary and are now being introduced into Britain.

After rolling out the pastry type dough and cutting it into strips Peter wound one onto a sort of wooden rod and coated it with sugar and cinnamon mixture before putting it into a little oven. When they are ready they come out looking like a little steaming chimney.

This one tasted a bit like a doughnut mixture with a crispy crunchy cinnamon crust but other flavours were available.
