The Collection

On the ledge of a window well off of the side-door, outside the kitchen, there is a ragtag collection of miscellaneous rocks. There is no rhyme or reason in the collection. Some are round or flat, some are rough or smooth and they vary in colors from grey or brown or green or black or speckled. The common denominator for these rocks is that Chantico, one of our German Shepherds, has selected these rocks out of the garden to bring into the house. Sometimes, she removes bricks from loose walls in the garden or cobbles from the walkways---we generally try to figure out where she got those and return them to their proper locations. Smaller stones, we pick up off the kitchen floor or out of her crate and stack them just outside the kitchen door. Every now and then, someone cleans off the ledge and we start again. She is the consummate rock hound!
