Freddie the mud magnet

I have never met a dog like Freddie. He wallows, there is no other word for it, in every muddy puddle he can find. He always looks so beautiful at the start of the walk, but he quickly changes from a sandy colored retriever to a brown one. This was half way round the walk, most of the mud was yet to come!

We parked in Blackmuir Woods Carpark and walked up, past the Stone Maze, through the woods and onto the Cats Back. In the Carpark at the top there were at least a dozen very smart, clean cars parked. Very unusual to see any. We looked at the spotless cars, then at our boots and trousers and lastly at Freddie . Not dog walkers we decided, let's hope we don't meet them we both said. Freddie and Poppy are very gregarious dogs, they both love meeting new friends, no thought is given as to whether or not the approaching people want to be friends, as far as they are concerned everyone loves them.

Five minutes later who should be coming our way down the path. Yes, the spotless car owners. A walking group they told us, but their boots were just as spotless as their cars. Freddie made a beeline for an elderly gentleman in beige trousers, the look on his face was priceless! Luckily in my pocket I had a supply of tuna treats, disaster was averted! The beige trousers walked quickly on, in fact they all walked quickly on! The only other walker we met was a fellow dog walker whose collie quickly realised that this chance meeting was an opportunity for a good game and a chase.

We love Freddie.
