Failed Frozen Bubble Photo

I often look through photography blogs and forums and came upon these great images this mom took of frozen bubbles. She did it as a project with her 7 year old son. Hey, I can do that!! Well, not so much.

Not sure what failed but here's a run down. Temps perfect - single digits. Very cold and wind chill below zero. Ahh, too much wind. I was on the back porch, the front porch, etc. bubbes blew but flew away - so finally went into the garage. Still single digits there - if I was freezing then the bubbles should too.

Added corn syrup to bubbles per the blog post. Maybe too much. It seemed the bubble often popped but the shape was still there with the corn syrup. I couldn't "corral" the bubbles so I made this make shift bubble holder. Since my kid thought I was utterly crazy he turned down the chance to hold my bubble while I photographed it. (I think with just a roll of the eyes and a wave of his hand - no patience for his mom's antics - he's a teen, not 7)

Any way - I had these great plastic cups & filled them with snow which was the perfect bubble holder. (thanks Cinderella for supporting my efforts) I then thought just leave them on the hood of the car and go inside and wait until they freeze. This shot is actually the one I took as a "behind the scenes". I was going to have a beautiful crystalized bubble shot and then a pull back and say 'see how I did it?'.

Well over and over the bubbles popped before they froze. I was so frozen that I quit. My kid all warm and toasty still playing his video game gave me a small smirk when I told him it didn't work. (at least he kept it to a smirk)

So here's my daily blip of a beautiful crystalized bubble that almost was.

Hope you enjoyed the story. Sometimes it's the journey (but a frozen crystalized bubble photo would have been better)

Moving on.
