Karnak on Irwell

I was lucky enough to visit Egypt a few years ago. It was wonderful to cruise the Nile and visit the amazing temples and other buildings from ancient times. We were particularly impressed by the enormous Temple of Karnak in Luxor. There is an echo of Karnak in Manchester. On New Bailey Street on the Salford side of the River Irwell across from the glass towers of Spinningfields, where the railway line crosses to street to get to Salford Station, a series of cast iron, Ancient Egyptian inspired columns supports the line as it leaves Manchester city centre and heads to the nothing western suburbs of the city...
