To Need a Lift
I am very partial to cruising along the English canals in a narrow boat.
It is not an uncommon sight to see such cranes as this on the canal wharves where they are now preserved for their industrial history interest. Normally they were manually operated.
This is the Manx Electric Railway. It runs from Douglas up the east coast of the island to Ramsey. We are just outside Ramsey station. The trams only run in the summer months.
Before the onset of the next storm this morning I was walking past and recognised a familiar looking piece of machinery. The mechanism appears to have an electric motor to provide the lift.
Unlike the canals it does not appear that anyone has yet recognised the industrial interest of this particular machine and it is a state of some neglect.
