Priceless...
We woke up to a hard frost and -2 degrees, which some of our American friends will think is positively balmy, but it's the coldest we've been in a long time. The car was completely frozen, and I had to empty the boot of all the beer we bought yesterday to find the de-icer! But I can't complain as the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
I had an early morning 'medical' appointment which went well, and then Alan and I took Louis for a walk at the Butte de Lion as I wanted to visit the monument where we scattered dad's ashes. At the moment they're developing a new visitor centre for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, which is next year, and we were very disappointed to see that they'd demolished one of our favourite restaurants Le Bivouac de L'Empereur.
Anyway, we went to visit 'Dad' and I took this photo looking back at the Butte with Dad's monument on the right hand side of the picture. We had to keep Louis on his lead as the land has been treated with very fresh horse manure, which smelt awful and which he would have eaten!
After our walk Alan dropped me off at Les Six Colonnes where I'd arranged to meet the girls for lunch. I haven't seen most of them since we left 6 months ago so it was lovely to get together and catch up. I also got lots of birthday presents which was a nice surprise :-)
Then tonight we went with Mary & Chris to the Grand Hotel which adjoins Mastercard where Alan used to work. It was as if we'd never left - the bar man nodded at us and said Bonsoir, remembered what we had to drink, and then after the first round he came and topped us up free of charge like he used to, and said 'Mastercard Apero'. He obviously thinks Alan still works there lol! Priceless :-)
We're now back at Chris & Mary's and dinner is cooking, so I'd better go and join the others. Tomorrow we're going to treat them to either a dinner out or a takeaway. I'm afraid I'm finding it hard to comment at the moment, so I'm sorry, but I'll catch up with you as soon as I can. Hope you all have a good weekend!
