Goalposts & The Silver Jubilee, Aylesford

Day 32 of 365. These locked gates and the dates of the Queen's Silver Jubilee that appear on them reminded me of being ten years old all over again. I remember the huge street party we had, getting the mug and the commemorative coin (which I've still got somewhere!), the whole overwhelming excitement of it all.
The goalposts are more a memory of the following year when, again, we had another street party but more importantly Scotland featured in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina - THAT was the most exhilarating thing ever. And when Archie Gemmill scored the wonder goal against the Dutch to make it 3-1, for a few brief minutes everyone with a Scottish heart started to believe the team was going to win the whole damn thing! But being Scotland, of course that was never going to happen - we conceded another goal (still beat the Dutch, though!) and went out before the next round.
