The Perfect Murder

Mum, Peter James, Me & Ria, outside the Theatre Royal, Brighton.

We went to the seaside today to see the matinee performance of The Perfect Murder, Peter James' short crime novel about a cantankerous & bickering couple who contemplate murder to end their strained 20 year marriage.

It was a fantastic play to a packed out crowd. Les Dennis & Claire Goose were brilliant as Victor & Joan Smiley, their ordinary but heated exchanges providing some wonderful bitter-sweet humour & some menacing moments. Gray Obrien, Steven Miller & Simona Armstrong were equally fantastic as Kirk, DC Roy Grace & Kamila. Jenny, Ma, Ri & me really enjoyed it & were gripped throughout. It was a great theatre production of a short story.

It was obviously the place to be, as we were sitting just a few seats along from Shane Ritchie during the performance. He insisted on looking at us at various points throughout - we played it cool, he was clearly star struck! And quite amazingly after the show, as we milled about with the crowds in the post-rain-shower dusk air, we were extremely lucky to run into the man himself, Peter James, as he wound his way toward the theatre entrance to see the evening performance. We were gutted when we found out a couple of days ago that he would be attending in the evening, not anymore!

High on the theatre buzz, we wandered down into the Lanes for a slap up feast at Wagamamas. Very nice.

The Perfect day.
