Pierhead Lighthouse
The Hoan Bridge connects the South Shore area, which is where we live, to downtown Milwaukee, as well as to the connections for the rest of the expressway system, & it spans the Milwaukee Harbor, where the Milwaukee River meets Lake Michigan. We drive over it very often, & each time we do, I tell my husband what a great picture the Pierhead Lighthouse would make if I could take the picture from the height of the Hoan Bridge. Each time he answers with "it's illegal to stop on the bridge, it's dangerous because of all the traffic, & I don't want to get a ticket!" (all valid points). But last night I heard the weather forecast which called for a clear, sunny morning today, & being Sunday, if we went early, there would be hardly any traffic. I don't understand it--he wasn't at all enthused--I had to bribe him by saying I'd buy him breakfast after he took me there! So we drove up the incline of the bridge with only 1 car visible, which was far, far behind us--he stopped, I jumped out, took 1 shot, jumped back in, & we were done! Success!! This lighthouse was built in 1872 to light the harbor so that boats going into or coming from the Milwaukee River onto Lake Michigan could find their way. I blipped it once before from street level, but I like the elevated view even better. If you look closely you'll see that there are about a dozen ducks swimming off the end of the pier. I love the red color! :)
