Spizella pallida
#32 - BlipBigYear 2014
Well, J did it again. This time he found a terrifically rare bird in his parents' backyard. This is a Clay-Colored Sparrow, an infrequent visitor to our area, especially in winter apparently. It's the first one that's been seen in the county this year. And it's the first one I've ever seen. Well played, J. This photo comes from equipment that is not my own (though I did depress the shutter!)--it's a digiscoped shot using J's dad's spotting scope and point-and-shoot. It only took three days to come up with a picture I'm happy with...so nice of the wee bird to keep hanging around our neck of the woods.
