Goldfinch

A good day for Goldfinch, Redpoll and Siskins, They are all interested in the Niger seed and have arrived in pairs, a feast for the eyes.

The female redpoll and the siskins share the tray without any aggravation but the Goldfinch are bossy and chase the Siskins. They have coped with the heavy showers on this cold day although it is better here than for the poor people and wild life in the south.

From the internet:
Goldfinch
A highly coloured finch with a bright red face and yellow wing patch. Sociable, often breeding in loose colonies, they have a delightful liquid twittering song and call. Their long fine beaks allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels. Increasingly they are visiting birdtables and feeders. In winter many UK goldfinches migrate as far south as Spain.
