Alex' gift

My old friend Alex is a clever, kind, generous man who would do anything for his family and friends. We were visiting for dinner and had a lovely evening. As is customary we gave some gifts to our hosts. And Alex said that he had a gift for me.

When he walks the dog (for though its owner is his daughter, he is the one who is retired and has time to do dog-walking) he collects golf balls - knowing that I play golf (albeit very badly). The gift for me was a bag of golf balls. Alex does not play golf so does not realise that 4 of the 10 balls originated in golf ranges and so are not great for normal golf on a course. Nor does he realise that if a ball is cut or damaged it is not really useful. I reckon that there is just one good golf ball in the collection.

But one good ball, several good for some practice shots. So I am in profit. Alex, you're a great man!
