Karanga

Karanga are peanuts (groundnuts), and are sold everywhere, freshly roasted, in little bags costing 100 Shilingi (4p). They are utterly beyond compare to the ready salted variety you can buy here, and are often sold by children on street corners and outside bars, in an effort to supplement the family income. I buy lots - it feels good to help out, and get something so delicious at the same time. Hannah and Elsie are also addicted, and, although they are self concious about trying to speak Swahili they will give it a go if there is a reward at the end. Here they are buying karanga at a shop just up from the house.
