A 16 year old and Marius

Today is a day of celebration. 16 years ago today the most precious cargo that anyone can carry was delivered in a maternity ward in the north. A beautiful baby girl was born after quite a lengthy labour for my dear friend as her husband held her hand (Apologies to those who do not like the term delivered, i couldn't think of another word!) My friends daughter is as beautiful today as she was then not only in looks which are clearly from her mum but her personality, kindness and perseverence. She should be very proud of herself as I know her mum and dad are.

Whilst we celebrate this special day we also spare a sad thought for Marius. Marius is (was) an 18 month old giraffe who today has been murdered, MURDERED, as apparently there is no further use for him and something to do with genetics and all that rubbish. Marius lived in Copenhagen Zoo. Two other zoos offered to take Marius but Copenhagen refused. The amount of meat he provided for the carniverous animals at the zoo was too good an opportunity to pass over. Was this the purpose of breeding him in the first place. I love giraffes and am saddened that this can be allowed to take place. Its an absolute disgrace and it makes one wonder what will be happening to the other animals in that awful place called a zoo where animals are supposed to be protected.

So we will continue to celebrate the 16th birthday of a lovely young lady but at the same time spare a thought for the life of what was just a baby.

RIP Marius but a very big happy birthday to a very special 16 year old. Enjoy your meal out.
