Sing, sing and sing again!
I have spent the afternoon in Bradford Cathedral recording a programme for the BBC! Songs of Praise.
I am absolutely exhausted! If you watch the half hour programme in future remember that the people singing have been there over three hours recording it and that is on top of the 2 hours rehearsal last Wednesday evening!
People from church choirs in the district where the recording is taking place are invited to apply for tickets and then as choir ticket holders you are seated with other sopranos, altos, tenors or basses as appropriate.
I love Bradford's small and unassuming cathedral and felt this would be an interesting experience. They were doing two recordings and some people had attended both, the other was done yesterday. I couldn't do the rehearsal for yesterday's due to Panto rehearsal commitments but I don't think I could have done it two days on the trot. My feet went numb from standing, no wonder they had St John's ambulance on standby.
We were told the doors opened at 12.45 and arrived slightly after but as you can see there were long queues and we didn't get in until well after the one o'clock cathedral bell had chimed.
The five hymns we sang were lovely hymns for Holy week as the broadcast will be on Palm Sunday, the other will be sometime in lent, in particular verses sung by the Cathedral choir were a delight.
Singing of a different kind next week; two dress rehearsals and four performances of our village pantomime!
