Here there and everywhere

Fry-an-egg hot!

It was very hot today, must have been about 36 degrees, the hottest day yet on this trip. I'm sure we could have fried an egg on the pavement. Even with our number 50 suntan cream all over, we couldn't stand more than a 20 minute walk along the front of Copacabana before seeking some shade in the leafier streets just a couple of streets back. We strolled to the Sunday Hippy Market in Ipanema, in search of a replacement ring which I'd loved but had broken. No luck. Deciding not to fry an egg on the pavement, we sought refuge in Bar Lagoa, which is really a restaurant, and quite an institution in a Rio. It's art deco in style and all the waiters wear smart white jackets and at least two of them are 80 years old and incredibly sprightly. At least one of them's featured in my journal before. Here's a detail of the interior of the restaurant.
