The accidental finding

Across to Rodborough

In an effort to get back some Blip inspiration, I thought of trying to capture some images on the way to work. It wasn't raining all the way! This view across the valley cut by the river Frome and the canal is one I pass every day and always admire. Rodborough is a late addition to Stroud: a Victorian/Edwardian suburb on a hill with some fine red brick houses and later additions. I fancied living there when we were house-hunting, but CleanSteve pointed out that many of the houses are north-facing, and that narrow Victorian staircases can be a nuisance! He was probably right. Certainly climbing a steeper hill than the one I live on could come to be tiring.

The Rev W Awdry , of Thomas the tank engine fame, lived in Rodborough, and the church has a Thomas-themed stained glass window, which must be unique. Nowadays, the novelist Katie Ffforde is one of the more famous residents.

And now we've finished work, and art history class, and watching Pointless, so it's back to the Winter Olympics, and watching more terrible news stories about flooding in the South East and South West.
