Homage to Sylvia Plath
Hand in hand we plodded. For me, that home
Was our first camp, our first winter,
Where I was happy to stare at a candle.
For you, it was igloo comfort.
Your Bell Jar centrally heated
By a stupefying paraffin heater.

Ted Hughes, Birthday Letters
The bell jar in the photo is one of those pointless but vaguely decorative objects that hide themselves away in various places in my house. I had often thought of using it as part of a Sylvia Plath montage. Today it was grey and wet all day and now the wind is getting up but I still feel insulated from the worst of it. (I hope I am not speaking too soon.) I worked from home and didn't leave the house. What to blip? Some random object? Chompuss (always obligingly photogenic)? Instead I decided to be adventurous and set up my long planned montage and play about photographing it.
Sylvia Plath died at her home in Fitzroy Road, Primrose Hill on February 11, 1963. This road is shown on the map in the bottom right of the photo. This is a leaflet describing a walk around Belsize Park, fairly local to me. Her house is not included in the walk but it easily could be.
