The power of the sea
These huge six foot high cubes of concrete were cast in 1940 when we were living in fear of being invaded by Nazi Germany. They were designed to prevent tanks landing the the beach.
Before the current storms these particular tank traps were still standing upright and were invisible under encroaching high sand dunes. The high winds and seas of late have carried away the sand and the waves have undermined the blocks causing them to fall over, casualties of the weather. Defending the coast is no simple matter, be it in wartime or in times of peace.
