Diary of an Edinburgher

Rosslyn Chapel

Lazy day for me, but JR continued with the wee jobs, many of which are ‘on my list’ but not on any ‘must be done now’ list…

A big green wooden storage chest is now painted white. And a big jar of white spirits to clean the brush has been spilled on the floorboards… I don’t mind the smell, but I’d prefer the smell of a roast in the oven wafting through the house…

Went out this afternoon with the vague idea of popping in to Ikea for some wee storage containers for something or other in the kitchen. I’ve never seen it so busy! Why was everyone there on a lovely day? There were no spaces in the car parks - which are the size of a small town, so it didn’t take too much persuasion on my part to abandon the idea and head out into the countryside instead.

The sky was terrific - sunny, billowy clouds, dark clouds looming in, no wind. We arrived at Rosslyn Chapel. We haven’t seen it since the scaffolding and canopy had been taken off a couple of years ago. It was in place for 13 years to keep the rain off the roof and let it gradually dry out.

We didn’t go in, having been before, and a busy Sunday afternoon wouldn’t be the best time to visit… We walked round to try to get a photo. On the entry side, there’s a big wall, but we walked right round, and got a good view. It’s a special wee place, even before Dan Brown mentioned it.

Oh look - we’re very near M&S! Popped in for a meal deal...
