A day of interesting observations....

It has been hot and humid here today, 29 degrees I think we got to, the humidity not something we usually have to suffer, that is often left to those up in the North Island!

I had a couple of interesting observations today...

First was this line up on amazing overland tractor type vehicles I came across in Lyttleton this morning. You couldn't miss them if you were over there! Not sure what they are about, but they seem to have come from Australia, and from what I could read on some of the write-ups they had on them they must be doing a South Island adventure here in NZ?? I assume they had arrived here at the Port on a big cargo ship?? Anyone know anything about them ???

My second quite different observation came about in the carpark of a shopping mall in town, where I observed a young woman with a child in a push chair approach an elderly lady and ask her what I imagine was a request for money. I was in my car at the time, but I was intrigued as I have heard alot about this 'scam' that is active at the moment with this exact thing happening, and the young 'mum' asking for money for a 'bus fare' and when she is offered an actual car ride or other options, she gets aggressive and agitated. I saw that the elderly lady had refused and had walked away, the younger one went on to the next person she saw and the next. My concern was for the young child, who didn't look at all well looked after.....anyway, I actually called the police, who had already had had some calls about the exact situation...the police woman kept me on the line until the police car turned up, and they took this young lady and the child away! I hope she was perhaps legitimate in her quest for a 'bus fare', but something tells me the money was probably needed for her own bad habits and the child would be going without essentials.

That has been my day!
