Moses
We were invited to Moses' house for dinner today. Moses is Emma's oldest friend. He has a very simple home, no water or electricity, but it's in a very quiet area, and he has two enormous mango trees in the yard, so it is the most peaceful place to sit and relax in the shade.
The usual gaggle of neighbourhood children were on hand to beg for photos and provide entertainment by dancing (without music), and doing acrobatics. E & H were much more sedate, doint their word searches at the table, but they were a source of much wonder and interest to the locals. When they were smaller they played with the other kids no bother, but now the language barrier has kicked in - they feel shy because they can't communicate.
After food we went to a nearby bar (there seems always to be a nearby bar in Tz), and I had a double Johnny Walker Black Label, as a treat to myself. It felt very decadent at 6,000 TSh, but actually only cost £2.40. Once the sun had gone down, and Emma settled down to watch the football on the telly, I drove the kids home (yes, after a double whisky!). I don't drive much over here - the tarmac roads are a bit kamakazi, and the back roads are more a series of holes with high bits you need to avoid if you want to stay in contact with your exhaust. We took it VERY slowly, and arrived in one piece.
