A Spoon Warmer
The spoon warmer was a Victorian invention used at a time when kitchens were often a long way from the dining room and that room was likely to be cold. A variety of articles that could contribute to keeping food warm was essential. Spoon warmers were often made in the form of a nautilus shell, as ours is, although other designs do exist. They would be filled with boiling water and the spoons placed inside.
