Dawyck Water
One of the many treasures close by is the Dawyck Botanic Garden. It has been a long time since I last visited and it is a place I'd like to know better. According to the blurb, "it is truly one of the world's finest arboreta".
The main reason for the visit was to meet up with fellow blipper Colin McLean. He kindly agreed to share some of his very extensive knowledge and expertise in photography through a walk in the woods.
I learned much.
I learned to treat the tripod as a friend. Apart from all the obvious advantage of steadiness, it also slowed me down and made me think of the shot I was trying to take. I learned a little more about exposure, aperture and sensitivity and the wee scale on the screen which suggests exposure under/right/over exposure. I learned I need to look after my camera better. I learned of some gadgets which might be useful. And I learned what a skilled photographer Colin is.
Colin lent me his ND filter for this shot. It is now on the list.
