Reminder of Italy

Last summer, we had a brilliant holiday in Italy. It included a glorious few days in Lucca. The old town is surrounded by a very substantial wall. Cycling around it we noticed a garden which, judging by the number of folk with rucksacks, seemed to be open to the public. We decided to visit.

Coming off the wall, we entered a warren of medieval streets and it was some time before we found the entrance to the garden. Within the garden were some fabulous hydrangeas with very full flower heads.

I decided I would plant one and I did that in November. From a distance it looks like an unpromising bunch of twigs. However, on closer inspection the top of each looks as if it might come to something. Who knows?

I might have a reminder of Italy this summer.
