The beholder's eye

My first love.....

It has been a truly lovely day today, blue sky, white fluffy clouds and best of all........sunshine.
Sunshine warm enough to feel it on your back....Heaven!
I went to the local Nature reserve this morning, and it was lovely to hear all the birds singing so sweetly.
Later in the day I went for a quick trip to Wimland hill, and it was lovely to see butter yellow Lesser Celandines and paler yellow wild primroses beginning to adorn the hedgerows. I found myself singing 'Spring is in the air' true it's a corruption of 'Love is in the air' but hey, it works and really fitted the moment!
For today's blip though I returned to my first love and photographed this tiny Birch catkin bug - Kleidocerys resedae I found in my garden.
Birch catkin bugs are common in the UK, anywhere there are Birch trees (and we have a huge one in our front garden) they overwinter as adults, and emerge and breed in the early spring. The adults emit a mating call using a strigil found on one of the hind wing veins.
They are tiny 4.5 - 5.5mm and I used my 50mm extension tube in conjunction with my macro lens to take this shot.
It feels so good to be photographing bugs again........hurry up summer!
