Puppets on display...

Headed into Glasgow this afternoon and had a lovely afternoon at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery with GraceN. We were there to see the Jack Vettriano exhibition, as she hadn't seen it and I was happy to see it again. This was the last weekend and it was really busy. As we went in the mid afternoon I thought it might be a bit quieter by then but we had to queue for 45 minutes to get in. Worth it though as, after tomorrow, the collection will all be broken up and many of the paintings returned to private collections, so it was good to see it one last time.
The previous record for numbers attending was held by the Glasgow Boys in 2010. That brilliant exhibition attracted 103,000 visitors. As at 20th February, Vettriano had achieved 123,300 so a clear win for the boy from Fife, who at the age of 16 was down the pIts working as a miner. He certainly turned his life around. (Vettriano - 123,300: Art critics - 0 )

What has all this got to do with puppets? Not a lot, but the queue took us past some cases with a wonderful collection of puppets from around the world. Apparently, this is the collection of John M Blundell, (the man behind Parker in Thunderbirds) who does a lot of work with the puppets at Kelvingrove, holding workshops etc with children. This brightly dressed pair are quite old and from Eastern Europe... the notes were sketchy (they are working on them) so that's all I can tell you.

After the Art Gallery, we went for a lovely meal at Paparino's in Byres Road. I had Wild Boar ravioli... never had wild boar before... tasty and interesting!
