Life through the lens...

By ValC

The end of a long day.

A very enjoyable meal at The Lighter Pub in Topsham.
A lovely old pub. Dates form the 17th century.
Named after a flat bottomed boat which used to unload larger boats that had to anchor in the middle of the channel of the river Exe.

A Fish and Chip Platter.
Badger Tanglewood ale battered fish, crisp scampi, and salmon fish cake, chips and mushy peas.
MrC had steak and Tanglefoot ale pie. ( a gold medal winning pie)
Butter mash, and assorted vegetables.
We shared a gooseberry and elderflower Bakewell tart, with ice cream!

We had a good journey down from Yorkshire, except for very heavy rain after Bristol.
Didn't see any floods anywhere.

Fortunately the rain stopped before we reached Exeter, and we had a nice walk along the river Exe and Clyst.
Saw lots of curlews, and also some avocets, as well as other ducks etc.

We were surprised how much damage there had been along the riverside walk and also to some of the houses in the town.
I think this will be the first of the damage we are going to see on this holiday.
