Donaghadee Lighthouse Co. Down.

A trip down memory lane for me today.

This is an iconic Co. Down photograph.

Donaghadee is a wee village on the Ards peninsula. From here it is only 12 miles across the Irish Sea to Portpatrick. We had a caravan a few miles from here when I was a child and it was a real treat to get the bus in to the village to do shopping, get an ice cream and walk along the pier to see the lighthouse.
From our caravan I used to see its light at night together with that of the nearby Copeland Islands light and a couple along the Galloway coast in Scotland.
Because of this I've had a lifelong fascination with lighthouses. A few years ago I was excited to have the chance to spend a night at Corsewall lighthouse in Galloway which is now a small hotel. I was amazed to be staying at one of the lights I used to watch from the caravan window all those years ago and to be looking across to the Co. Down coast.
