A Year in Phnom Penh

Black stream

Wending our way home today we rode the moto along this delightful waterway, which runs right behind the area we live in. It was blacker than black and running through a residential area, with families trying to grow vegetables on the bank and children playing at the edge.

It's so sad that in a city where there are thousands of smart four by fours, swanky restaurants and coffee shops and new developments all the time, that the basics just aren't taken care of. Whatever people think about the state, be grateful that you don't have sewage and industrial effluent running past your house - and this is the modernised capital!
