Potting up..

..been sunny, and overcast, with showers of rain, hail and sleet. Oh, and gusting winds..

So do the write up for the months weather and camera club reports for "The Scourie News", our monthly free double A4 newsletter.. 20 year average rainfall is 126 mm, and we've had 119 so far, so pretty normal I'd say..

Spent the afternoon potting up seedlings in the poly-tunnel and greenhouse..

Chard in the bed on the left, with lettuce stretching out beyond. The seedlings in pots are Brussels Sprouts (Abacus), cabbages (Greyhound, Regency and Redruth), cauliflower (Aviron), Kale and Borecole, Kohl Rabi (Ballot and Korfu). These were sown in modules in mid Jan, and have lovely root systems. Now planted up in 7 cm pots, will be planted out at the end of March when they'll have 6-8 leaves, and be hardened off. I have some more of these sown mid Feb, and I'll sow more in mid March..

Sowed some more Parsley, flat and curled, some Marigolds, more Brussels (Boxworth), and Calabrese. The Brussels will harvest from Aug-Sept through to March..

Overwintered salads are still doing OK, strawberries are growing, garlic is now 4-6 inches tall, peas (for sprouts) are emerging, as is the salad I planted at the end of Jan.

Do like this time of year, so much promise of things to come..

Music, Bryan Burnett's theme tonight is "Chat up lines". This is my choice..
