Feb 26th 2009 - Maïté's Birthday!
Today is Maïté’s birthday so it we all wished here happy birthday before heading to breakfast and everyone sang Joyeux Anniverssaire en Francais after a lovely breakfast of battered cheese and a boiled egg. We started the day with Spanish lessons of bingo and some fun exercises – our teacher Santiago is really nice and he doesn’t mind if we get things wrong as long as we are all having fun. There were many Colibri (hummingbirds) buzzing around which was gorgeous.
In the afternoon we visited the beautiful botantical gardens. There were so many different varieties of flowers as well as a cute kitten and a lovely dog. It was incredible to walk around this wealth of nature and just appreciate it – although the plant which stimulates your blood flow just stung really! On the way back the Danes started singing songs from children’s films which was so much fun and so sweet. Afterwards we played some volleyball in the pool which started out nice and friendly before the number of Danes playing decreased and the number of internationals increased, and it ended up with us all just throwing each other about really!
After tea and dessert we had Maïté’s birthday cake (which had awesome icing!) before the fun really started. Tonight was awesome! It took a little while to get started, but when it did it was a real party! I invented a drink (which I named Maïté after the birthday girl) which consisted of Scotch Whisky, Amaretto, Maracuya Vodka and Sprite and I managed to get some of the girls onto it during the night. The slow start was due to us not being able to get our Ipods working properly.
Then there was musical chairs. Yes, musical chairs, hence why it is the blip. It got everyone rowdy and gave us enough time to put some music onto CDs, so as soon as the second game ended it was really time to party. The drinks kept flowing, the music was blaring and our dance moves were stunning. Then the evening took a turn.
We went for an innocent swim and then we threw Maria and Cecilie in whilst fully clothed. Some of the other girls (no names will be mentioned) then started removing each others bikinis and threw them at me. I duly put them on and re-entered the party before the girl ran topless through the group. After they got their bikinis back they came for my shorts and even though I tried to stop them they won over and just my hat covered my dignity. I continued to party in the group before my hat was also stolen, then just my hands and a SpongeBob SquarePants hat spared my blushes. Okay, that didn’t exactly stop me and I carried on dancing on the tables and dancing in the group – I had stopped caring by this point.
After finally getting my clothes back and having a little chat with some of the Group B girls (and saving a couple of them from a spider) a few of us (Rachel, Katchi, Maïté, Sally and I) had a little heart to heart about being English (or International) on this trip. I love the Danes but sometimes a little English humour goes a long way.
