Glasgow's Triumphal Arches
Not really.
These rather dramatic arches connect the glamorous and architecturally stunning City Chambers to the rather less glamorous Council office buildings to the rear.
Once in the long ago, I was a solicitor working in the Court Department of the then Glasgow District Council. Needless to say, our offices were in the building to the rear of the Chambers, access to which could be achieved by means of a corrridor cunningly disguised as the top part of the arch.
In truth we were rarely obliged to go to the posh front of house. Most of the time we were scampering in and out of a back door which opened onto John Street where I'm standing to take this photograph, on our way to and from the Sheriff Court.
