Blooming heather
A cursory look at the garden just now would not hold out much hope for a blip. Yet I have a large patch of a spring flowering species of Erica that is blooming profusely. It has burst into flower every year for the past 25 years but because of the mild winter it is early. As it is a ground-hugging plant with small flowers it's easy to overlook it. Heather, the name most commonly used, is closely associated with Scotland and is probably derived from the Scots word 'haeddre'. It is certainly one of the country's most prolific plants.
I positioned the camera just a couple of inches off the ground on its wide-angle setting. This is when being able to swivel the viewing panel 90 degrees on the Sony RX100II and look down on the image comes into its own.
