San Francisco Trams
Our last full day in California was spent in San Francisco touring the sights. Of course we just had to jump on a tram down to Fisherman's Wharf (obligatory when in San Francisco and so much fun). We wandered amongst the street entertainers and even took turns to sit in the 'Test Your Passion Factor' chair in the arcade for some interesting results! We walked down to Pier 39 to see the seals basking in the sunshine, visited Lombard Street, more affectionately known as the 'wiggly street' as it has eight tight hairpin bends in a one block section, then up to Coit Tower (which was closed for renovations) but the views over the bay were spectacular and finally, meandered through Chinatown on our way back to our hotel.
Saw lots of interesting street graffiti and a great variety of tenement buildings. A fantastic day - we've seen and done so much and it's a great way to get fit walking up and down those hills!
Tomorrow we will be on our way home and I will be sad to leave California and the lovely friends I have met on this trip. I couldn't have wished to be with a more supportive and fun group. I'll miss you all.
Check out the groups blip journals for some fabulous photographs:
our professional photographer and tour leader John Gravett, whose expertise and generosity of time and spirit has helped and inspired me enormously. Our guide Mike Beck, for his enthusiasm in sharing his immense knowledge of California and for making it a fun and enjoyable trip and to fellow travellers and blippers
Annie and Chris Andrews, Graham Colling, Matthew Lynes and Keith Knight, all of whom have made it such a memorable journey. I hope to see you all again soon.
