nonsenses & truths

New Street

What a day.

Left the house just after 8 am to find a clearly distressed woman walking across the street. Aware that the attentions of a man might not be welcome,* I cautiously asked if she was ok - clearly not. She was not massively coherent, but I gathered she had spent the night outside. It had been below zero last night, there was frost on the grass and ice on the cars. She was wearing boots and a short skirt, and had managed to find an abandoned cardigan which she'd tied around her legs in an attempt to warm up. I got her a coffee and found a taxi. She said she'd been homeless and only recently found a place to live - fortunately she knew the address. The taxi driver seemed happy to take her home and I gave him the £10 he thought it would cost. I hate to think what she had been through, I asked if she'd prefer to go to the police station, but she just wanted to go home, at which she said there were some security staff. Kirsty, I hope things get better for you soon.

Then I went and bought a van.

Next I went to Birmingham Museum for a total mental overload:

A Photorealism exhibition - amazing

Mapping My Journey, which I needed to revisit to spend some time listening to/watching the AV pieces

Grayson Perry's 'The Vanity of Small Differences' which I didn't know was on, but I really enjoyed. It was pretty busy and I would have liked a bit more time/space. There are 6 large tapestries documenting the life of a person called Tim through his journeys through life and class.

Too many blips to pick from today.

*I live in an area where women work on the streets
