Light up my world!
A lovely Spring day, and a day packed full of even more books!!
First thing this morning, my regular weekly book club, then into Bath for another two Literature Festival talks at the Georgian Guildhall. This is one of the beautiful 18th century chandeliers that adorn the building.
Today's talks:
Lucy Lethbridge: Servants - In her brilliantly observed new book, Lucy Lethbridge explores the social history of the last century through the eyes of those who served. As our curiosity about this social class is piqued by TV programmes, the voices of servants and domestic staff have largely been ignored by history – until now.
Barbara Swindin: All But One - Born in 1940s Gloucestershire, Barbara Swindin succeeded in climbing the Alpine Fourthousanders – all but one. Accompanied by beautiful images, she tells of her enduring delight in mountaineering while also giving insights into the pioneering women who dared to tackle alpine routes when alpinism was strictly the preserve of men.
