Bullfinch (2014.061)
Another in my occasional series of random bird shots.
This is another through-the-window shot with the 400mm + 2x telecon combination. A really murky day, so ISO up into the unmentionable end of the spectrum. The 1Dx seems to produce less noisy images in darkness than in daylight, when at very high ISO. This shot was very speckly, whereas some of the night time shots I've taken have seemed cleaner. Nevertheless, this was within the capability of Lightroom to despeckle, and I'm reasonably pleased with the definition of the bird, with some reasonable DoF too.
The 1Dx is much much easier to manually focus than the 1D3.
Sorry, this is a bit of a camera-nerdy Blip. Sunday wasn't much of a day of excitement, so I took the opportunity to do some technique practice, and this is my favourite shot of the day. I'm very much inspired by wildlife photographers, and in awe of their skills, so it's an area I'm looking to develop.
